• Q I have a Lexus 300 and the AFS light is illuminated - how much will that cost to fix? - Submitted by George F.
  • A This could just be simply that you have inadvertently caught the switch which turns off the Adaptive Frontlight System (AFS). This among other things allows the lights to traverse as you turn the steering wheel and possibly even turn the lights on or off automatically. The switch is located just under the dash on the drivers side. If you have any difficulty finding it just call in...Mike
  • Q 2004 Peugeot Partner - No wipers or washers - fuses OK.... Paul Yates, Skipsea
  • AThe most common fault with this one is that the switch looses sync with the bsi (‘Built-in Systems interface). It is a central controller or interconnection unit that allows the sharing and management of information across the ECU’s fitted to a vehicle. It will need resetting first to see if that will cure the fault... Mike
  • Q I have a 04 Fiat Ducato and can see fluid on the rubber mat in the footwell - Any ideas? Paul D. Hornsea

The MOT Test - A Legal requirement

Everyone who uses a vehicle on the road must keep it in a roadworthy condition. The MOT test checks that vehicles meet road safety and environmental standards. The first MOT test for a vehicle is required when it is three years old.

An MOT test ensures your vehicle meets the minimum road safety standard. It's designed to keep you and other road users safe and your insurance may not be valid if you don't have an MOT certificate.

While you wait:

One of our approved testers will carry out your vehicle's MOT while you wait (it takes around an hour). Or, we can give you a courtesy car or a lift so that you can carry on with your day while we're taking care of your vehicle. We can also collect and deliver your car causing you the minimum of inconvenience.

We MOT test the following types of vehicle:

The MOT looks at some important items on your car to see that they meet key legal requirements at the time of the test.

Cars - class 4

Light Commercial Vehices - class 4 up to 3000Kg GVW

Motor Homes - class 4 up (provided they will fit on our MOT ramp)

Clear explanations:

Our testers have lots of technical experience. If your vehicle fails, they can explain why and show you the areas causing any problems. We can also fix the problems - usually straight after the MOT once we have your approval.

When we've completed your MOT, we'll give you a list of anything that's wrong with your vehicle. We will be very clear on which of these items are essential for ensuring it's roadworthy and which can wait.

Any additional items that we list are provided just for your information. We'll give you guidance on whether it would be advisable to have them done now or how long you could wait before attending to them.
